Marbella in winter
December afternoons around 17.5°C, green fees at their cheapest, and a coast that does not so much close as stop advertising. Every figure below is read from the source that owns it, on a stated date.
Figures checked 25 August 2026, each against the site that publishes it.
The weather, measured
The numbers below are AEMET's 30-year climate normals for the nearest full station, not a holiday brochure's. A December afternoon typically reaches 17.5°C and a January one 16.8°C; January still logs 180 hours of sun. December is also the coast's wettest stretch, at 6.6 rain days in an average month.

Golf: December is the cheap seat
The assumption is that winter golf here costs a fortune. The clubs' own 2026 rate tables say the opposite: the expensive seasons are spring and autumn, and December sits in the low or mid band at every club below. The four rates are the same four sources our golf guide prices, re-read for the winter bands on 25 August 2026. No club had published its January or February 2027 table by then, so December 2026 is the last winter month every table prices, and that is the month this table states.
A December 2026 round runs €62 to €139 across the four Marbella and Benahavis clubs that publish a rate, on each club's own table read August 2026. The spring and autumn top rates at the same clubs run €98 to €177.

The beach clubs: what their own sites say
4 marquee clubs, each checked against its own site on the same day. None of them publishes a winter calendar, and that finding is the record: what follows is exactly what each site states, not our guess at a closing date.
- Nikki Beach Marbella · Elviria. Publishes daily hours (restaurant, pool and beach, 12:00 to 19:00) and no seasonal calendar. nikkibeach.com, checked 25 August 2026.
- Trocadero Arena · Río Real, Marbella. Publishes 'Everyday from 11:00 to 01:00' with no seasonal note either way. grupotrocadero.com, checked 25 August 2026.
- Ocean Club Marbella · Puerto Banús. Publishes no opening calendar; its own copy sells 'the best that summer has to offer'. oceanclub.es, checked 25 August 2026.
- La Cabane · Los Monteros, Marbella. Describes a designed anniversary 'season' and publishes no winter calendar. lacabanemarbella.com, checked 25 August 2026.
What is actually on
Winter is the town's own season rather than the visitors' one. The lights go up on the main avenue in late November, the Alameda fills with the Christmas programme, and the Reyes parade closes the season on 5 January. Starlite, the summer festival, is exactly that: a summer festival. Dates and sources for all of it live on the events calendar and the Christmas page.
Staying the winter
A winter here is not priced like a summer week, and the long-stay maths has its own page: measured rents, seasonal contracts and the 90-in-180 rule for non-EU passports, each from the body that owns the figure.
Questions people actually ask
Is Marbella warm in winter?
By north-European standards, yes. AEMET's 30-year normals put the December daily high at 17.5°C and January's at 16.8°C, with 180 hours of January sun. It is shirtsleeve weather at lunch and jacket weather at night, not beach weather.
Is golf cheaper in winter?
On the clubs' own 2026 tables, yes. December is low or mid season at all four clubs that publish a rate, from €62 at Cabopino to €139 at Los Naranjos, and the top rates belong to spring and autumn.
Are the beach clubs open in winter?
None of the 4 clubs we checked publishes a winter calendar on its own site. What each one does state is quoted above with the date it was read, and the restaurant coast behind the beach keeps serving year round.
