Hospitals in Marbella

One public hospital, three private ones and a ring of public health centres. This page is the map: which is which, who runs a 24-hour emergency department by its own account, and which number to dial. Every address and every claim below is read from the institution's own site, dated, and a fact it does not publish is marked unpublished rather than assumed.

Addresses, phone numbers and emergency statements read from each institution's own site, 4 September 2026.

Public means the Andalusian health service (SAS); health centre means a public centro de salud, each of which lists the district's urgencias line. A 24-hour mark appears only where the institution's own site states it; HC Marbella's site did not answer on the read date, so its row carries the link and nothing else. Read 4 September 2026.

The numbers to dial

Before any address: 112 is the single emergency number in Spain and works from any phone, in English, for ambulance, police or fire. The Andalusian health service adds 061 for a life-threatening medical emergency, Salud Responde for appointments and advice, and a district urgencias line that every Marbella health centre page lists; all four are below, read from the Junta's own pages. If you are standing in Marbella with a real emergency, 112 is the answer and the rest of this page is for the next day.

The public hospital: Costa del Sol

Hospital Universitario Costa del Sol is the public hospital for Marbella and the western coast, part of the Andalusian health service, on the A-7 at kilometre 187 by Los Monteros on the east side of town. Its own site names an emergency and critical-care unit without printing the hours, which is why the table above says emergency department rather than 24 hours; the Andalusian service lists it as the referral hospital for the whole Costa del Sol district. A resident registered with the Spanish system is treated on the public tariff, and a visitor with a European health insurance card (EHIC) is treated as a Spanish patient for care that cannot wait.

The private hospitals

Three private hospitals answer to the name. Quirónsalud Marbella, on Avenida Severo Ochoa, belongs to Spain's largest private hospital group and states adult, paediatric and obstetric emergencies around the clock on its own site. Hospital Ochoa, on the seafront in an independent company's hands since 1997, states an emergency ward open 24 hours every day. HC Marbella International Hospital is the third, and the one people search for most; its site did not answer on the read date, so its row above carries the link and no claim. A fourth name, Hospital Ceram, still appears in directories: its site is down and its operating company is listed as inactive, so it is not on this page. What a private hospital costs is a matter between you, the hospital and your insurer; none of them publishes a tariff a page like this could quote.

Health centres and the first appointment

For anything that is not an emergency, the public system starts at a centro de salud, not a hospital. Marbella has six on the Andalusian service's list, one per district, and the one you belong to is decided by your registered address, not by choice. Registration needs the padrón certificate from the town hall and a social-security number; once you hold a health card, appointments are booked through Salud Responde or the ClicSalud+ app. Every centre's official page lists the district's urgencias line, which is the number in the table; surgery hours differ by centre and are on each page linked in the table.

Insurance, EHIC and paying

The public hospital treats an EU visitor with a European health insurance card (EHIC) as a Spanish patient for care that cannot wait; it does not treat a card as travel insurance, and a repatriation or a private room are not covered. Non-EU visitors are billed on the public tariff. The private hospitals work with the Spanish insurers and with the international ones, and each hospital lists its accepted insurers on its own site; check before you arrive rather than after.

Questions

Which hospital in Marbella has a 24-hour emergency department?

Two private hospitals state it on their own sites: Quirónsalud Marbella and Hospital Ochoa, as of 4 September 2026. The public Hospital Costa del Sol has an emergency and critical-care unit and is where 112 sends an ambulance, though its site does not print the hours. HC Marbella's site did not answer on the read date.

Is Quirón Marbella public or private?

Private. Quirónsalud Marbella is part of the Quirónsalud group, Spain's largest private hospital operator. The public hospital for Marbella is Hospital Costa del Sol, on the A-7 east of town.

Can I use my EHIC in Marbella?

At the public hospital and the public health centres, yes: a European health insurance card (EHIC) entitles you to necessary care on the same terms as a Spanish patient. It is not accepted as payment at a private hospital, and it does not cover repatriation or planned treatment.

How do I register with a doctor in Marbella?

Register on the padrón at the town hall, get a social-security number, then apply for the Andalusian health card at the centro de salud your address belongs to; Marbella has six. From then on appointments are booked through Salud Responde or the ClicSalud+ app, both run by the Andalusian health service.

Where is the nearest pharmacy open tonight?

Pharmacies work a rota. The pharmacy-on-duty page on this site reads the official rota and names tonight's pharmacy for Marbella and San Pedro.

How this was read

Each hospital's address, phone number and emergency-department statement comes from its own site, read on the date above, never from a directory or a review site. Public-system facts come from the Andalusian health service. A hospital that does not say on its site whether it runs a 24-hour emergency department is marked as not stated; this page does not fill the gap from memory. No waiting times, no prices and no ratings appear, because none of these institutions publishes them in a form that can be read and dated.
